FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Crews are drilling CIDH piles for the Orr and Day railroad bridge, on the freeway. This work will be ongoing for approximately three weeks and will be conducted during the daytime. 

Florence Avenue Bridge Nighttime Lane Closures at I-5

Beginning Sunday, March 5

Florence Avenue will be closed to all traffic in both directions, between Studebaker Road and Orr and Day Road, from 8 p.m. Sunday, March 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 6 and then nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Monday, March 6 for approximately two weeks. On Sunday night, March 5 crews will restripe Florence Avenue at I-5 to the new lane configuration (one lane in each direction); nightly closures will continue while crews demolish half of the Florence Avenue bridge at night for approximately two weeks.

Heavy traffic and delays are expected in the area surrounding Florence Avenue at I-5 once this work begins; motorists are urged to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Florence Avenue Bridge Lane Reduction at I-5 Beginning Monday, March 6

On Monday, March 6 Florence Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction, between Orr and Day Road and Fairford Avenue, for approximately two years. The Florence Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 will also close for approximately two years, on Monday, March 6. The Florence Avenue bridge is being reconstructed one half at a time to accommodate the widening of I-5 below the bridge. 

The diagram below outlines the first stage of bridge construction (which will take approximately nine to 12 months to complete), including the temporary lane configuration, related ramp closures, and pedestrian access. Florence Avenue Nighttime Bridge Demolition at I-5

Beginning Monday, March 6

On Monday night, March 6 crews will begin two weeks of nighttime work to demolish half of the Florence Avenue Bridge at I-5. Northbound and Southbound I-5 will be closed between I-605 and Norwalk Boulevard, nightly beginning *Monday night, March 6 for approximately two weeks. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to construction equipment, concrete demolition, back-up alarms and other related activities.

  • Northbound I-5 will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m.
    DETOUR (shown in green on the map below): Exit NB I-5 at Norwalk Blvd. off-ramp; west on Adoree St., west on Imperial Hwy., west on Firestone Blvd. to NB I-605 on-ramp. Transition from NB I-605 back onto NB I-5. 
  • Southbound I-5 will be closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
    DETOUR (shown in blue on the map below):  SB I-5 traffic will be directed onto SB I-605 and exit at Firestone Blvd., east on Firestone Blvd., east on Imperial Hwy., south on SB Frontage Rd. to access the SB I-5 on-ramp.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

On Monday, March 6, crews plan to close the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Imperial Highway for 12 months. Motorists will be directed to use the northbound I-605 on-ramp at Firestone Boulevard, then transition back onto northbound I-5, as an alternate while the northbound I-5 Imperial Highway on-ramp is closed. The closure area is shown in red on the map below; the detour route is shown in green


Pile driving activity adjacent to the northbound I-5 near Imperial Highway, will resume on Monday, March 6 and will be ongoing for approximately the next six weeks. This work will be conducted intermittently, Monday through Fridays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised that pile driving work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to this operation.

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

Rosecrans Avenue may be closed to all through traffic (motorists and pedestrians) in both directions underneath I-5, Monday through Fridays between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Nighttime closures on Rosecrans Avenue will continue intermittently for the next six months. For detour information visit the project Google Map.


Pile driving activity adjacent to northbound I-5 near Rosecrans Avenue, is underway and will be ongoing for the next several weeks. This work will be conducted intermittently, Monday through Fridays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised that pile driving work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to this operation. When this work is underway, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, while crews transfer piles from the contractor's yard onto the construction site.  

At 9 p.m. on Friday, March 10, crews plan to close N. Firestone Blvd. from Rosecrans Avenue to Bloomfield / Markdale Avenue, for approximately six months. This closure is needed as crews reconstruct N. Firestone Blvd., complete pile driving adjacent to I-5 and complete soundwall construction. The closure area is shown in red on the map below; the detour map is shown in green

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Landscape and irrigation work is ongoing along Frontage Road, N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. This work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

The temporary northbound I-5 on-ramp at Freeway Drive is set to close permanently mid to late-March. Portable changeable message signs will be placed in the area two weeks in advance of the closure. Once this ramp closes, motorists will be detoured to proceed west on Alondra Boulevard, then north on Carmenita Road to access the northbound I-5 on-ramp.  Once the date for this closure is set, more information will be provided.

Freeway Drive under the Valley View bridge has been closed to through traffic and clearing and grubbing operations are ongoing. The contractor is also breaking up bridge footings.


Crews have closed the southbound Valley View Avenue off-ramp and reduced lanes (one lane in each direction) on the Valley View Avenue bridge over I-5. The duration of the ramp closure and lane reduction will be approximately two years. Heavy traffic and delays in the area are expected. If possible use alternate routes (shown on the map below).

Crews will be removing asphalt between Arbor Place and Park Place, weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Multiple utility relocations are ongoing throughout the construction site. There will be intermittent lane reductions on both N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. Work will be performed Monday through Friday. 

A portion of S. Firestone Boulevard at Coyote Creek channel is now closed for utility relocation for a period of four to six months. Work will be conducted weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open and detour signs will be posted. For detour information visit the project Google map.
