I-5 Corridor Improvements Between Orange County Line to the I-605

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

On Monday, July 17, crews will begin work to reconstruct the intersection of Fairford Avenue at Florence Avenue. Fairford Avenue must be reconstructed to meet the higher elevation of the new Florence Avenue Bridge. Crews will close Fairford Avenue to through traffic between Dollison Drive and Florence Avenue, beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, July 17. Fairford Avenue will remain closed for reconstruction through early 2018. Fairford Avenue will be closed between Dollison Drive and Florence Avenue; the closure area is shown in red on the map below. Work next week will require full nighttime closures of northbound and southbound I-5, between Norwalk Blvd. and I-605, as well as a closure on Florence Avenue.

On Sunday night, July 16 the following closures are scheduled for falsework construction activities. This work is not expected to generate excessive noise or disruption.

  • Northbound I-5 will be closed between Norwalk Boulevard and I-605 from 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 16 to 5 a.m., Monday, July 17 
    DETOUR: Motorists will exit northbound I-5 at Norwalk Boulevard off-ramp, proceed west on Adoree Street, turn left on Imperial Highway, turn right on Firestone Boulevard and proceed to the northbound I-605 on-ramp; then transition onto northbound I-5.

  • Southbound I-5 will be closed between I-605 and Norwalk Boulevard, from 11 p.m. Sunday, July 16 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 17 DETOUR: Motorists will be directed onto SB I-605 to exit Firestone Boulevard, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on Southbound Frontage Road to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.

On Tuesday night, July 18 the following closures are scheduled so crews can pour the stem and soffit of the new half of the Florence Avenue bridge. This work will include a concrete pump and may be disruptive due to truck back-up alarms, equipment noise and construction lighting.

  • Florence Avenue will be closed between Orr & Day Road and Studebaker Avenue from 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 19. Alternate routes are shown on the map below.

  • Northbound I-5 will be closed between Norwalk Boulevard and I-605 from 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 19. 
    DETOUR: Motorists will exit northbound I-5 at Norwalk Boulevard off-ramp, proceed west on Adoree Street, turn left on Imperial Highway, turn right on Firestone Boulevard and proceed to the northbound I-605 on-ramp; then transition onto northbound I-5.

  • Southbound I-5 will be closed between I-605 and Norwalk Boulevard, from 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 19 DETOUR: Motorists will be directed onto SB I-605 to exit Firestone Boulevard, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on Southbound Frontage Road to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.

Fence installation, vegetation removal and sound wall removal along the northbound I-5 Florence Avenue on-ramp, adjacent to Longworth Avenue, will continue next week. Once the sound wall removal operation is completed, crews will immediately begin work to construct the new sound wall. A privacy fence has been installed along Longworth Avenue, adjacent to northbound I-5 freeway. This work will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to concrete demolition and removal, equipment noise, sound wall construction activities and truck back-up alarms. 

Crews have begun drilling CIDH (cast in drilled hole) piles along northbound I-5. This operation will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and will be ongoing for approximately six to eight weeks.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

Crews are performing nighttime drilling operations for CIDH (cast in drilled hole) piles on Pioneer Boulevard. This work will be ongoing next week and will require nightly closures on Pioneer Boulevard, between Imperial Highway and Crewe Street (shown in red on the map below; detour route highlighted in green), Sunday, July 16 through Wednesday, July 26, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Pile driving activity along I-5 at Pioneer Boulevard is ongoing; this work will be conducted weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will be ongoing intermittently for approximately three months. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration, and pounding related to pile driving activity.

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

Rosecrans Avenue may be closed to all through traffic (motorists and pedestrians) in both directions underneath I-5, Monday through Fridays between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Nighttime closures on Rosecrans Avenue will continue intermittently for the next six months. VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

On Wednesday, July 19 crews will be performing nighttime striping work on Valley View Avenue at I-5. In order to complete this work, there will be a full closure of Valley View Avenue between Alondra Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard from 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 19 to 6 a.m. Thursday, July 20. Local business access will be maintained at all times.


Pile driving and shoring activities are ongoing on the south side of Valley View Avenue. This work will be conducted weekdays during the daytime between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
