Happy Independence Day! For the Fourth of July holiday, no freeway lanes will be closed for construction between 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, and 12:01 a.m. Thursday, July 5. Closures for emergency work to maintain a safe roadway and protect the public are exempt from this restriction.

Work will occur during daytime hours unless otherwise noted.

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

Sonora Avenue, Alameda Avenue, Western Avenue, Providencia Avenue, and LA River Bridges:   Crews continue working in the I-5 median to widen the bridges.

Providencia Avenue:  Crews are completing fence barriers and removing overhang brackets on the pedestrian bridge.

LA River:  Crews are constructing the walkway.

I-5 Median:  Crews are installing drainage at night and during the day. Crews are placing concrete pavement at night.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

Northbound I-5 Shoulder near Old San Fernando Boulevard Tunnel: Crews are constructing the bridge's deck and backfilling abutments.

Northbound I-5 between Burbank Boulevard and Cohasset Street: Crews are paving LCB (lean concrete base) and JPCP (jointed plain concrete pavement).

Buena Vista Street: Crews are working on seismic retrofitting of bridge columns. Lanes are reduced to one lane in each direction on Buena Vista Street.

Empire Avenue Crews are excavating and constructing roadway curbs and gutters between Maria Street and the Metrolink railroad bridge.

ABOVE: At the left edge of this photo, partially hidden behind "K-rail" concrete barriers, traffic rolls northbound on I-5 at Empire Avenue where crews are constructing an abutment. When completed, the abutment will support a new span of the bridge at the Empire Avenue undercrossing and interchange. The dirt area in the foreground will be paved.

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

Alameda Avenue, Sonora Avenue and Western Avenue Lane Closures:

Intermittent daytime and nighttime street and lane closures on Alameda Avenue, Sonora Avenue and Western Avenue through mid 2018. Detours are posted.

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Freeway Closure:

Northbound and southbound lane closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., at times reducing I-5 to one or two lanes in either direction.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures:

Intermittent nighttime northbound and southbound I-5 lane closures between Magnolia Boulevard and Hollywood Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Front Street Long-Term Closure:

Front Street between the Metrolink station (south of the Magnolia Boulevard Bridge) and Burbank Boulevard will be a northbound-only one-way street. For access to the Metrolink station from northbound I-5 use the Olive Avenue exit to 1st Street and cross under the freeway on Verdugo Avenue, and southbound I-5, use the Verdugo Avenue off-ramp exit.

Buena Vista Street Closures:

Intermittent daytime and nighttime closures of Buena Vista Street, in both directions, between San Fernando Boulevard and Winona Avenue. Lane closures on Buena Vista Street through September for seismic retrofit work on I-5 bridge columns.

On- and Off-Ramp Closures:

Intermittent on- and off-ramp closures at Buena Vista Street, San Fernando Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detours will be provided.

Empire Avenue Closure:

Empire Avenue between Wilson Avenue and Victory Place will remain closed through 2018.
