LOS ANGELES – Next Thursday, May 15, Metrolink, Southern California’s regional passenger rail service, will celebrate “Bike Day” by providing free rides on all trains, including the Arrow service, to passengers who board with a bicycle. No ticket will be required to board: a bicycle will represent sufficient train fare.

“Bikes and public transportation go hand-in-hand,” Metrolink Board Chair Doug Chaffee said. “Since riding a bike can bridge first- and last-mile connections between home, train stations and target destinations, Bike Day is the perfect opportunity for us to promote these active and sustainable transit options in tandem."

All cyclists are welcome aboard any train car if there is safe and secure bike storage available. Most Metrolink train cars can hold up to three bikes, while designated bike cars can carry up to nine. Arrow trains hold up to 12 bikes per car. Standard, single-rider bikes and electric bikes that meet size and weight limits qualify to be brought on board the train.

For cycling enthusiasts seeking recreational inspiration, Metrolink's website features a curated list of the Best Bike Paths accessible via Metrolink. These unique routes encompass trails located across the Metrolink system, including the Mount Rubidoux Trail in Riverside and the Mountains to the Sea Trail in Tustin.

Also on May 15, the Ventura County Transportation Commission is waiving fares for those with bicycles in tow. LA Metro, meanwhile, is offering free rides for all passengers on its bus and rail lines – no bike needed – and the Metro Bike Share service is granting free 30-minute rides at any of their kiosks or with promo code 051525 in the app. Later in the month, on May 28, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is celebrating local cyclists by hosting its annual Bike Rally, beginning at the Orange Metrolink Station. OCTA is also running a contest giveaway for a free e-bike package.

Metrolink’s Codeshare and Rail 2 Rail^® programs with Amtrak Pacific Surfliner between Ventura and Oceanside are not eligible for the Bike Day promotion. Bicycle reservations and paid fare are required to bring a bike aboard Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains.
