Metrolink Chief Financial Officer Ronnie Campbell Named CFO of the Year by Los Angeles Business Journal

Monday October 7, 2019

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Business Journal selected Metrolink Chief Financial Officer Ronnie Campbell CFO of the Year at an award ceremony held on Sept. 26. Campbell was chosen from a competitive field of financial officers throughout the Southern California region.

“I nominated Ronnie for this prestigious award because of his exemplary leadership since joining Metrolink in 2016 and his record of problem solving that helps Metrolink grow and succeed,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “Ronnie has increased Metrolink’s balance sheet by $43 million and improved cash flow through spending controls and process improvements.”

Through Campbell’s leadership, Metrolink has been more strategic in its fiscal management, thereby reducing staff time devoted to budget development, encouraging more fiscal discipline and establishing a more policy-oriented budget process primarily through a multi-year budget. Under his direction, Metrolink’s Finance Department was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

“I want to thank my family and all the people who had faith in me,” Campbell said. “When I started, I was a kid from Lake Charles, Louisiana, who had a dream to study accounting, and I am grateful to be recognized in this way.”

Campbell began his career in financial management while working for the San Diego Housing Commission and then the City of Lakewood, where he served as assistant director of Administrative Services for more than 11 years.

Prior to joining Metrolink, Campbell was the director of finance for the City of Camarillo. During his tenure, he produced six balanced budgets during the national economic recession and led the city’s effort in long-term fiscal planning. Under his leadership, the department continued to receive the Government Finance Officers Association's Excellence in Government Finance Award for Financial Reporting and Budgeting, an award it received for 26 years consecutively.

Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science from San Diego State University and a Master of Science degree in Leadership Management from the University of La Verne. He is an active member of his church in Long Beach, where he sings in the choir and works with the finance team and board of directors
