Metrolink Joins LASD and Pomona Unified School District to Give Toys to Disadvantaged Families

Friday December 20, 2019

POMONA, Calif. - Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Metrolink Bureau, Metrolink Board Member and Mayor of Montclair John Dutrey and Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins distributed holiday gifts to families today at the Pomona Unified School District’s (PUSD) Child Development Conference Center as part of the Santa’s Helpers 2019 Toy Giveaway.

“Sheriff’s deputies spend their careers in service and this annual event helps us connect with the youngest members of our community to bring joy to those most in need,” said LASD Metrolink Bureau Captain Edward C. Wells.

This year, the PUSD helped identify disadvantaged families to receive over 700 toys that were donated at Metrolink’s four Holiday Toy Express events held on December 1, 8 and 15.

“I’m honored to be here on behalf of our Metrolink Family of riders, communities and team members who donated more than 700 toys at our Holiday Express Train events,” Wiggins said. “It means a lot to me to be a part of the communities that we serve bringing holiday cheer to our neighbors in Pomona.”

The PUSD is a partner with the LASD and Metrolink because there are two Metrolink train stations in the city, Pomona-North on the San Bernardino Line and Pomona-Downtown on the Riverside Line. Metrolink also has five operational locations in Pomona where employees work daily, including the Dispatching and Operations Center.

Metrolink supports organizations that help people in the cities it serves through the Metrolink Cares Program. In addition to the Santa’s Helpers 2019 Toy Giveaway, Metrolink Cares partners with community-based groups to mentor young people at risk of falling into a life of gangs and violence, trains persons with developmental disabilities to connect with employment opportunities and assists fundraising efforts to improve health and wellness for all people.
