Metrolink to Celebrate Earth Day with Free Rides

Earth Day PR

LOS ANGELES—On Monday, April 22, Earth Day, Metrolink will provide free rides on all Metrolink and Arrow trains, with no ticket required. Riders can board a Metrolink train at any station throughout the six-county area for transportation wherever Metrolink trains travel.

“Using public transit is more than getting from point A to point B; it's about embracing a sustainable future for our communities,” Metrolink Board Chair and City of Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon said. “Every journey taken on Metrolink contributes to reducing harmful emissions, profoundly impacting our environment. By choosing public transit, we become better stewards of our planet, paving the way towards cleaner air and a brighter tomorrow.”

As part of this year’s Earth Day celebration, Metrolink has also partnered with local schools across its service area to host a student fashion show competition at L.A. Union Station showcasing sustainable designs created by area high school and college students. More than 20 designers based within the five primary counties served by Metrolink’s system – Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura – have entered the competition. Three winners will be selected, and their fashions will be featured across Metrolink’s social media platforms.

"At Metrolink, we believe in showcasing our commitment to sustainability in innovative and often unconventional ways,” Metrolink Board Director and Riverside County Supervisor Karen Spiegel said. “Sustainable fashion represents more than a trend. It's a statement about our dedication to a greener future. By merging sustainable fashion with public transit, we're not only making a stylish statement but also demonstrating how sustainability can seamlessly integrate into every aspect of our lives.”

For those looking to take advantage of free fares to explore all the region has to offer, Metrolink's Explore SoCal website offers a curated selection of eco-conscious destinations, easily accessible by walking or biking from a nearby Metrolink station, perfect for travelers seeking inspiration.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) are also offering free rides on Earth Day.
