Rail Fleet Planning
The Rail Fleet Management Plan (RFMP) is intended to chart a course for future service and investment decisions related to vehicle fleet and facilities through FY2040 and is in alignment with Metrolink’s Strategic Business Plan and Climate Action Plans. The RFMP will be revised as necessary to reflect new service conditions, new technologies, evolving regulatory requirements, future Board direction, funding constraints, and policy changes.
The Rail Fleet Management Plan (RFMP) is a living document which will evolve with the life and growth of the fleet, including changes in technology, and contains Metrolink’s strategy for achieving and maintaining its vehicle assets in a state of good repair, maintaining its status as an industry leader and, most importantly, providing its customers with an outstanding passenger experience on every ride with safe, clean, dependable and on-time operations
In 2023, Metrolink completed the Zero Emissions Technical Analysis (Analysis), which evaluates the available zero emission (ZE) propulsion systems, vehicle types, operational and infrastructure impacts, project cost, safety, and regulatory considerations of implementing and operating a zero emissions rail vehicle. The Analysis also informs Metrolink how to proceed with the Antelope Valley Line pilot funded as part of the 2020 Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) Antelope Valley Line (AVL) Capital and Service Improvements Project award.
