California Clean Air Day is an annual movement that encourages all Californians to take simple actions to improve air quality and protect public health. Motor exhaust and transportation emissions are major contributors to air pollution in Southern California. By choosing public transit, you’re helping reduce carbon emissions and contributing to cleaner air for everyone.

How to Ride

No ticket needed! Just hop on board any Metrolink train on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, and ride for free all day long. By choosing Metrolink, you’re already making a positive impact by reducing harmful emissions.

Metrolink is offering free rides on California Clean Air Day to encourage people to take the train, skip traffic and enjoy a comfortable, convenient, and stress-free ride with friends or family. Taking cars off the road benefits the air we breathe. By leaving your car behind and choosing the train, you're contributing to a healthier Southern California by reducing traffic and your carbon footprint.

No, you do not need a ticket to ride Metrolink or Arrow trains on California Clean Air Day.

Pass holders will not be reimbursed for prepaid fare. If you have not yet purchased a 7-Day Pass, take advantage of the free ride and purchase one the next day you plan to travel.

Seats on Metrolink trains are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We do expect an increase of passengers for the day and some trains may have standing room only.

Bike space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Traditional passenger cars hold up to 3 bikes, and our modified bike cars hold up to 11 bikes. There are bike racks for up to 12 bikes on the Arrow trains.

You will need to purchase a ticket for the additional transit service you plan to use.

No, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains require all riders to have a valid ticket.
