Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area
The Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area is nestled at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Irwindale and offers beautiful views of the mountains. This 836-acre facility offers visitors the chance to experience a serene 70-acre lake with year-round fishing and non-motorized watercraft usage. During the summer months, there’s a swim beach and water play area.
The park is home to many protected native plants and animals which are cared for by volunteers of the San Gabriel Mountains Regional Conservancy. Birdwatchers can enjoy the peace and quiet of the space, and the volunteers onsite offer educational activities such as interpretive experiences and walking tours throughout the year.
There are also biking and walking paths with an ample amount of space to relax and recharge away from the urban stress of the city.
It’s an ideal destination to bring the kids for a day outside fishing and playing in the sunshine. It’s also a great spot for couples to have a picnic, or for a spaced-out group gathering.
