Metrolink earns pair of APTA AdWheel Grand Awards

Southern California commuter rail provider wins a total of eight awards

LOS ANGELES - Metrolink earned eight AdWheel awards, including a pair of Grand Awards, presented by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The announcement was made at the APTA Annual Meeting this week in Chicago. The awards recognize public transportation systems and APTA business members for excellence in advertising, communications, marketing and promotion.

More than 500 entries competed this year in the four categories of print, electronic, campaign and special event. First place honors were awarded in various subcategories for each of the four groups, based on system size. Grand Award winners were chosen from those first place winners in each group.

"Our core goal is to safely transport passengers to their desired destination comfortably and on time, but there a number of ways to successfully communicate Metrolink's services and options," said Robert Turnauckas, Metrolink's Chief Administrative Officer. "These awards validate and recognize the hard work, professionalism and effectiveness of our marketing and communications staff. This honor acknowledges creative excellence."

In the Group 2 competition (comprised of public transportation systems with more than four million but fewer than 20 million annual passenger trips), Metrolink won the grand award for Special Event, "16th Annual Holiday Toy Express," and Social Media, "Metrolink Facebook Page."

The agency also received first place in respective categories for highlighting the new Ticket Fare Media, the Lunar New Year Paper Train, Weekend Pass Train Wrap, and the School Trip Marketing Campaign.
