New Hyundai Rotem cab car on public display
Port of Long Beach – Attendees of the 6th Annual Green Port Fest, sponsored by the Port of Long Beach, will have the opportunity to tour the port on a Metrolink train. They'll also have the opportunity to take a sneak peek of Metrolink's new, Hyundai Rotem cab car. Attendees can also stop by the Metrolink booth and pick up the latest information on Metrolink's system and services.
Metrolink rail tours of the port will begin at 10 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 2 and continue until the event is over at 3 p.m. There is no charge for the rail tour, and space is limited. This unique rail tour will take passengers along the same route used for cargo in the Port of Long Beach, the country's second busiest seaport.
Hyundai Rotem cars, equipped with state-of-the-art collision absorption technology, are the first passenger cars in the United States built with this safety innovation. Metrolink received its first shipment in April and will continue to receive approximately 10 cars per week until the total 117 cars is reached in 2011. The cars are currently undergoing final testing and then will be integrated into Metrolink's fleet. The stainless-steel cars are built with crumple zones on each end to absorb the energy in a collision. Interiors also incorporate new safety features such as higher seat backs, bolted-in seat cushions and energy-absorbing tables.
The Green Port Fest is an opportunity for the Port of Long Beach and its partners to showcase their operations, products and environmental programs to the local community in a fun and family-friendly way.
