Metrolink to host regional transportation leaders for a Leading Organizations Safely Workshop


National safety experts will facilitate the event

What: Metrolink's Leading Organizations Safely Workshop is a first-of-its-kind safety program designed specifically for leaders with the critical responsibility of providing oversight of public transportation systems.

Who: Metrolink/SCRRA Board Chair Richard Katz is hosting board members, agency leaders, and senior public sector staff from across the state in this special safety leadership forum.

Guests: Nationally renowned safety expert, the Honorable Robert Sumwalt, Board Member of the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Honorable Mortimer Downey, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, transportation consultant and a member of the Washington Metro Board, will join faculty from the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering to facilitate discussions.

Why: This one-day program brings together leaders who serve on transportation commissions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, as well as other senior state and federal safety oversight authorities, to discuss the importance of aligning and standardizing safety leadership principles and techniques. In partnership with the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering, a world-renowned safety institution, Metrolink is taking the rules compliance and training approach to safety to the next level by focusing on the science of safety leadership specific to the railroad industry.


ABOUT METROLINK

Metrolink is Southern California's regional commuter rail service in its 19th year of operation. The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), a joint powers authority made up of an 11-member board representing the transportation commissions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, governs the service. Metrolink operates over seven routes through a six-county, 512 route-mile network. Metrolink is the third largest commuter rail agency in the United States based on directional route miles and the seventh largest based on annual ridership.
