Metrolink to offer special Saturday train service to the Ventura County Fair

Southern Californian's can take special Metrolink trains from the San Fernando Valley to the Ventura County Fair at Seaside Park in San Buenaventura on Aug. 6 and 13. Metrolink will offer three north and three southbound train trips, between Chatsworth and the fairgrounds, with stops at Oxnard, Camarillo, Moorpark and Simi Valley. The special service is sponsored by the Ventura County Fair Board and the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

"This will be the eighteenth year these special Fair trains have operated and we've found that these special trains are a great way to demonstrate the advantages of Metrolink travel to those who might not be familiar with it," said Moorpark Councilman Keith Millhouse, who represents VCTC on the Metrolink Board of Directors. "More importantly, it is a safe and easy way for families to travel by train to enjoy the best county fair in California!"

Throughout each Saturday, there will be three north and three southbound train trips. (A complete schedule can be found here.)

Round trip tickets for the train are: $14 to/from Chatsworth; $12 to/from Simi Valley and Moorpark; and, $10 to/from Camarillo and Oxnard. Children five years and under ride for free when accompanied by a fare paying adult. Metrolink monthly pass holders also ride for free on these special trains, but Metrolink's $10 weekend pass will not be accepted on board the trains.

Tickets for the Fair trains can be purchased in advance at the Simi Valley, Moorpark and Camarillo City Halls. Tickets will also be sold first-come, first-served, at the different train stations on the days of travel, beginning about thirty minutes before train departures.

Metrolink representatives will be at the stations and on the special trains to assist passengers. Also returning to help with the special service are honorary conductors from the Santa Clara River Valley Railroad Historical Society.
