
Los Angeles – Metrolink's 14th annual Holiday Toy Express, a 450-pound train decorated with over 50,000 sparkling lights, will begin its 2010 tour on Saturday, Dec. 4, with stops in Burbank and Glendale.The train will bring Santa and Mrs. Claus tothirteen stops across the Metrolink five-county service area Saturday and Sunday evenings between Dec. 4 and Dec. 20.
Cities hosting this year'strain stopsare working with Metrolinkto planactivities unique to each location.Activities range from choirs, face painters, dance groups, food vendors, complimentary hot beverages and cookies,carolers and more.
"We modified this year's program to allow neighbors to gather in central locations to celebrate the season while supporting the Spark of Love Toy Drive," said Metrolink Board Chairman Keith Millhouse."I'm pleased we were able to continue to spread holiday cheer while being mindful of the economic downturn and budget issues facing our agency and our state."
The schedule of this year's train stops is as follows:
- Saturday, Dec. 4 – Burbank at 5:00 p.m. and Glendale at 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 5 – Palmdale at 5:00 p.m. and Santa Clarita (Newhall Station) at 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 11 – Corona (North Main Corona Station) at 5:00 p.m. and Fullerton at 6:45 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 12 – San Bernardino at 5:00 p.m., Rancho Cucamonga at 7:15 p.m. and Montclair at 8:15 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 18 – Irvine at 5:00 p.m. and Camp Pendleton Marine Corp Base at 7:15 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 19 – Moorpark at 5:00 p.m. and Camarillo at 6:15 p.m.
Events at all stops, except Camp Pendleton, are open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their holiday cheer as well as one or more unwrapped toys to donate to Southern California Firefighter's Spark of Love Toy Drive supported by Metrolink and KABC Channel 7.
