According to the National Weather Service, two to four inches of snow could blanket parts of the Antelope Valley including Acton, Lancaster, and Palmdale starting this afternoon into Wednesday, with snow elevations as low as 2,000 feet in the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains. Drivers and commuters are strongly advised to avoid potential icy roadways. Motorists may also experience dangerous conditions as blowing snow could limit visibility as northeast winds are predicted to be in the 25 to 40 mph range; with gusts reaching up to 60 mph. Driving could be severely affected on Interstate 5 through the Grapevine, Highways 14 and 138 in Los Angeles County, and Highway 33 in Ventura County.
Metrolink's Antelope Valley and Ventura County Lines will operate as scheduled during the winter weather conditions. Trains provide service from Los Angeles Union Station to Lancaster through 11:25 p.m. and to East Ventura until 8:37 p.m. tonight. Metrolink service resumes at 3:58 a.m. Wednesday morning from Lancaster and at 5:25 a.m. from East Ventura to Union Station. For schedule information, please visit metrolinktrains.com/schedules.
Due to the wintry conditions, the LA County Public Works has already closed several areas of the Angeles National Forest. Access will not be permitted until the roads are inspected, cleared and reopened after the storm passes. The closed roads are:
- Angeles Forest Highway between Aliso Canyon Road and Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2).
- Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road between Angeles Forest Highway and SR-2 (Angeles Crest Highway).
- Big Tujunga Canyon Road between Vogel Flats Road and Angeles Forest Highway.
Additionally, Public Works is prepared to keep the parking lot, boarding platform, and access from County highways for the Vincent Grade/Acton Metrolink Station facilities open during the forecasted storm. Public Works is also coordinating with Metrolink to inform the public of the potential for road closures and travel restrictions and encourage Metrolink as an alternative in the event of such closures and restrictions.
