Make-A-Wish Partners with Metrolink, Amtrak to Give One Young Train Enthusiast an Adventure to Remember

Make-A-Wish recipient Kingkairo (center, holding sign) poses with his family in front of a Metrolink train during a stop at LA Union Station on the way to San Diego.

Last weekend, Metrolink and Amtrak partnered with Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire to grant a life-changing wish to Kingkairo, a seven-year-old from Adelanto, Calif., located approximately 40 miles north of San Bernardino. Kingkairo has been diagnosed with a nervous system disorder. His wish was to set off on a special adventure traveling by train, and Metrolink and Amtrak delivered.

On Friday, July 25, Metrolink staff met the family at the San Bernardino Depot for a trip to Los Angeles Union Station. The Metrolink team provided branded swag and other goodies to make the trip memorable. Upon reaching Union Station, the Metrolink team escorted the family to an awaiting Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train bound for San Diego. Metrolink then provided the family's final leg of their return trip to the Inland Empire on Monday.

For Kingkairo and his family, this was more than just a train ride; it was a journey filled with wonder, kindness and lasting memories. Moments like these also highlight the deeper purpose behind our work, reminding us that every train trip has the power to inspire joy, spark imagination, and bring people closer to what matters most.
