Customers at the Moreno Valley/March Field Station on Metrolink’s 91/Perris Valley Line have been enjoying some major upgrades over the last several weeks with the completion of the Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project – a joint venture between Metrolink and the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC). On July 7, a new station platform opened following the restoration of a 2.5-mile section of double track through the area. To celebrate, we partnered with RCTC to host a pop-up event with coffee and pastries for customers - and staff from both agencies were on hand to answer questions and direct passengers to the appropriate platform.
Additional station enhancements included extending the original platform to accommodate a six-car train set and installing new canopies and signage, an emergency communications system and a mini-high platform to support accessibility. The upgraded track segment will eventually become part of a nine-mile double-track corridor, setting the stage for smoother operations and better peak-hour performance.
The project was part of the Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) Program, a multi-billion dollar initiative to modernize Metrolink’s system, and was funded through a mix of sources, including a $32 million Federal Transit Administration grant and Riverside County’s voter-approved Measure A. These investments will support a better rider experience and help ease congestion along I-215 by offering faster, more dependable rail service that gives local residents a viable alternative to sitting in traffic.
