Metrolink to Pilot New Fares with Affordability, Accessibility in Mind

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, new fares and discounts will be available through ticket machines and the Metrolink Mobile App, as part of a six-month pilot program.

Metrolink is changing the way it does fares—making ticket options easier to understand, more affordable, and better aligned with how Southern Californians travel today. Starting July 1, we’re introducing a simplified fare structure pilot with more intuitive offerings, new deals and discounts, and lower monthly pass prices. The program will run through the end of the year and may be extended if the new fares demonstrate strong potential to drive prolonged ridership and revenue growth.

Building on the success of Metrolink’s seasonal and weekend passes, the new SoCal Day Pass offers unlimited same-day travel for just $15 on weekdays and $10 on weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, up to three kids aged 17 and under will continue to ride free with a fare-paying adult. Customers traveling between select stations in and around Downtown Los Angeles will save even more with the $5 L.A. Zone Day Pass, which connects riders to Burbank, Commerce, Glendale, Montebello and LA.

Metrolink is also lowering the price of most monthly passes by an average of around 10%. These changes better reflect modern commuting patterns and offer more value for travelers who take Metrolink at least three days a week. Meanwhile, expanded discounts will help keep costs down for qualified riders. Military veterans are now eligible for 10% off, matching the current active-duty rate, and riders under 19 years of age as well as students with a valid school ID will enjoy half-price fares.

To keep things simple, we’re retiring a few ticket types that weren’t being widely used, including the 7-Day Pass, 10-Day Flex Pass and round-trip ticket. Customers looking for flexibility can still choose the 5-Day Flex Pass or purchase two one-way fares at the same price as the former round-trip option.
