Demonstration activity in Los Angeles brought increased foot traffic through LA Union Station on Saturday, June 14.
Metrolink’s ability to adapt quickly in the face of unexpected events continues to reflect our steadfast focus on safety and security for both our customers and our employees. During a multi-day period of community demonstrations throughout Southern California, much of which was centered in Downtown Los Angeles, our team navigated evolving challenges at our operational hub, LA Union Station, with readiness, urgency and care.
In response to increased activity near the station, the Metrolink executive team, train crews, customer experience personnel and security teams quickly coordinated with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), our partners at LA Metro and other key stakeholders to ensure the safety of customers and Metrolink team members. Our behind-the-scenes agility allowed us to adjust to rapidly changing circumstances in real time, exemplifying our commitment to regional collaboration and supporting our passengers in times of need.
Metrolink also provided swift and coordinated mutual aid for Foothill Transit passengers when routes to and from Los Angeles were disrupted. On Monday, June 9, upon learning that the California Highway Patrol had closed the busway, preventing Foothill Transit buses from entering the city, we honored Foothill Transit fare on our San Bernardino and Riverside lines, offering continued mobility for affected riders.
Granting mutual aid to Foothill Transit is not an unprecedented action on Metrolink’s part. Conversely, Foothill Transit allows Metrolink ticket holders access to its buses when we experience service disruptions. By being good partners, we’re strengthening the transportation ecosystem, benefiting communities across this vast region and encouraging goodwill and future cooperation with other transit agencies.
