I am pleased to announce that today, Metrolink service to and from Oceanside resumed after the Metrolink and OCTA project teams completed the construction of a catchment wall earlier this month. Crews also integrated a culvert and drainage system to improve water flow from under the right of way to the ocean.
Our track department worked to restore the ballast, which included the removal of mud and dirt that had inundated the right of way. The effort was essential for the long-term stability of the track. There were a number of additional steps to ensure the stability and safety of the OCTA-owned right of way.
Thank you to the entire project team for their tireless efforts to restore service, along with the California Transportation Commission for critical funding. The completion of this project means all rail traffic, including freight service, can operate through the area without interruption. We will continue to work with local, state and federal stakeholders on both near-term and long-term solutions for protecting rail movement for generations to come.
