SCORE
Metrolink's Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) is an ambitious, long-term capital improvement program designed to modernize and strengthen Southern California's regional rail network. Through strategic investments in track, signal, station, and grade crossing improvements, SCORE will enhance the reliability, capacity, safety, and sustainability of Metrolink service for the communities it serves today and for generations to come.
With SCORE, the Region Gets More
Many SCORE projects are already underway or completed, with additional improvements being delivered in phases over the coming years. Several key investments are expected to be in place ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, helping support increased regional mobility during that period, while the broader program will continue delivering benefits well beyond 2028.
The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) was commissioned to study the economic impacts of the SCORE Program. The study found that these investments will generate economic activity during construction while creating lasting transportation, environmental, and quality-of-life benefits across Southern California.
With SCORE, the region gets more:
- Enhanced rail safety and reliability
- More frequent and flexible rail service throughout the day
- Better access to jobs, education, housing, and opportunity
- Stronger connections with local and regional transit providers
- Economic growth and workforce development
- Reduced emissions and cleaner air
- Improved mobility for residents, visitors, and future generations
