Tier 4 Testing
As part of the implementation of the new Tier 4 locomotives, the Federal Railroad Administration gave Metrolink approval to begin testing one locomotive starting on June 1, 2017. The testing period is expected to last up to three months, beginning with “static testing” at Keller Yard and the Central Maintenance Facility.
Metrolink will be conducting brake testing of the Tier 4 locomotives on the San Bernardino Line between the Covina and Pomona (North) Stations this weekend. Testing is scheduled to run from Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, until Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing will include train braking distance. Depending on testing needs, approximately 8-round trips between the two stations should be expected.
We are hopeful that testing will be finalized this weekend, however, if that is not possible testing may also occur Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 and Wednesday Oct. 11, 2017 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
Upon completion, Metrolink will deploy Tier 4 locomotives which are up to 85% cleaner than existing locomotives. For more information, click here.
This schedule is subject to change. Metrolink will keep residents informed of any updates.
