This landmark is located in what is now Dodgers Stadium in the Elysian Park neighborhood. Until the 1950s, the neighborhood was home to many generations of Mexican Americans before the City cleared out the area to make space for public housing that never officially came to fruition due to an anti-public housing stalwart named Norris Poulson, who became mayor in 1953 and put a stop to these plans.

In 1958, only a few families remained in the area, so the City reached a deal with the owner of New York City’s Brooklyn Dodgers to move the team to Los Angeles—and build a stadium—historic Dodger Stadium—in Chavez Ravine.

Visitors shouldn’t miss the Chavez Ravine Arboretum, which today features more than 100 varieties of trees hailing from across the world. It was founded in 1893 by the Los Angeles Horticultural Society and is still maintained by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
