Metrolink Offers Free Round Trip for Travelers on Car Free Day

LOS ANGELES – Metrolink, Southern California’s regional passenger rail service, announced it is helping more people leave their cars at home on Car Free Day with a free round-trip ticket for anyone who newly downloads and registers on the Metrolink mobile app. Car Free Day, held every year on Sept. 22, is a worldwide call to action to improve air quality by choosing alternate transportation, such as a train, bus, bike or walking.

People who newly download and register on the Metrolink mobile app between Sept. 13 and Sept. 22 receive a free round-trip ticket that can be used between Sept. 22 and Oct. 31. The app is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play.

“Metrolink is the clean, relaxing and safe way to travel across Southern California,” said Metrolink CEO Darren Kettle. “Metrolink takes people where they want to go whether it be to job centers, colleges and universities or Southern California’s leisure attractions. There’s no better way to get around.”

Metrolink connects six Southern California counties through a 538-mile system with 62 stations. Schedules can be viewed at metrolinktrains.com.

Kettle said that removing personal vehicles from the road improves the twin headaches of traffic congestion and air pollution.

“Metrolink improves our environment by reducing millions of car trips annually and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions,” he said. “With more people traveling in recent weeks, Metrolink is welcoming travelers who prefer taking a safe, relaxing and economical train ride over wasting time in stressful traffic jams.”

Travelers can see the positive environmental impact their decision to leave their car at home has by visiting Metrolink’s Personal Impact Calculator.

For those looking for a place to go on World Car Free Day, Metrolink offers a wealth of curated leisure destinations on our Explore web page. Metrolink riders can also earn rewards points by registering at SoCal Explorer. Every mile traveled earns a point that can be redeemed for free travel.
