LOS ANGELES – Seasonal cheer is in the air as Metrolink’s annual Holiday Express trains return to delight families across Southern California. Beginning Saturday, Dec. 6, the Holiday Express will roll into five stations over three weekends, offering riders in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Irvine, Riverside and Simi Valley an unforgettable experience filled with joy and memorable moments.
Each Holiday Express event features festive train interiors and visits from Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and an assortment of merry helpers, including beloved animated fan-favorite characters. Prior to departure, guests are invited to welcome receptions at each station with themed activities, treats, music and family-friendly entertainment. Metrolink, in partnership with various local nonprofit organizations, is also continuing its tradition of collecting toys at each event to support families in need during the holiday season.
“There's something truly magical about Metrolink's Holiday Express trains that capture what this time of year is all about,” said Riverside County 2nd District Supervisor and Metrolink Board Member Karen Spiegel, who joined in the merriment with her family last year in Redlands. “This heartwarming experience enriches our local communities and creates memories that last long after the season ends.”
The nonstop, round-trip train ride lasts approximately 75 minutes, giving passengers plenty of time to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, sing along with their train car’s resident elf, and snap photos with Santa and company. Riders are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in and to take part in the interactive pre-boarding festivities.
Tickets are on sale now. Standard assigned seating is available for $30. Premium seats, which include a tabletop surface, are $35 each, and a small selection of single seats that face the interior of the train can be purchased at a reduced rate of $25. Children two and under can ride for free on an adult’s lap. Tickets must be purchased online in advance and will not be sold at the event.
“When aboard Metrolink's Holiday Express, the journey itself becomes the destination, and it's a celebration,” said Metrolink Board Member Tâm Nguyễn, who attended last year’s Holiday Express stop in Anaheim. “It's a wonderful example of how Metrolink connects our region, not just through rail service, but through shared experiences that bring people together.”
Guests are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy onboard. Strollers are not permitted on the trains and should be stored in vehicles during the trip. All Metrolink trains are ADA-accessible, and seats designated for passengers who use wheelchairs are identified on the seat map at the point of purchase.
