Metrolink Recognized at Annual Municipal Green Building Conference & Expo
Metrolink was honored yesterday by the US Green Building Council Los Angeles Chapter at the annual Municipal Green Building Conference & Expo for our LEED-Certified Dispatch & Operations Center (DOC) Building in Pomona.
The DOC received the LEED Silver Certification in 2018 as it conserves resources and promotes clean, renewable energy. During construction, 75% of the construction waste was recycled and it was built with 20 percent recycled material.
With the use of LED lighting, the DOC uses 16% less energy, and the building has a 40% reduction in building water use and a 50 percent reduction in site water use because of low flow devices and landscaping which allows for natural filtration.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
The Municipal Green Building Conference & Expo (MGBCE) is Southern California’s longest-running, and largest green building and sustainability conference focusing on the unique needs and concerns of municipalities and public agencies. The event is co-sponsored by the USGBC-Los Angeles Chapter and Southern California Gas Company. Each year this event brings together thought-leaders in green building and sustainability with municipal policy makers, policy implementers, leading architects and engineers to further the development of a sustainable, resilient and energy efficient future for Southern California.
The award was accepted by Fiailoa AhSue who was the project manager on the DOC. We thank her for her hard work and assistance in Metrolink’s goal to support a more sustainable future.
