Metrolink Service to Resume in South Orange County, to and from Oceanside
Friday, May 26, 2023
Good news. Service along Metrolink’s Orange County Line and Inland Empire-Orange County Line will be fully restored beginning Saturday, May 27.
Following the April 27 track closure, the City of San Clemente and Metrolink performed emergency work to stabilize the slope and clear the right of way. These efforts will ensure continued safe rail operations.
After a geotechnical assessment and a final track inspection today, it was determined passenger rail service could safely resume.

Update Regarding Suspended Service in San Clemente Area and Construction Effort
Friday, May 12, 2023
Since falling debris from a hillside slope near San Clemente’s Casa Romantica Cultural Center on Thursday, April 27 caused the immediate suspension of passenger rail service in the area, Metrolink staff members have been working collaboratively with the City of San Clemente Public Works personnel, contract engineers and consulting geologists to determine the stability of the ground above the tracks.
Last night, the city announced its contractor will begin emergency work today to setup access to the site in preparation for slope stabilization construction. The emergency effort is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete with the intent of reducing the chance of more material sliding down onto the railroad tracks. This work is a temporary stabilization remedy and more permanent work will be needed to secure the Casa Romantica building as well as the entire slope in the future.
Once this temporary stabilization work is completed, we will work with all involved parties to safely resume passenger service as soon as possible.
We continue to work closely with Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to keep passengers informed of the situation.
Metrolink Service Suspended in South Orange County Due to Falling Debris in San Clemente
Thursday, April 27, 2023
Unfortunately, movement to a hillside north of Metrolink’s San Clemente Pier Station has resulted in an immediate track closure affecting Metrolink’s Orange County Line and Inland Empire-Orange County Line, along with Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner.
The track closure took effect at 1:11 p.m. Thursday and the tracks will remain closed until further notice. The decision to suspend service through the area was made out of an abundance of caution, and the tracks will only reopen once it is determined safe to do so.
The location of this hillside movement is approximately two miles north of where the Orange County Transportation Authority is completing construction work on the successfully stopped hillside slope movement near the Cyprus Shore Homeowners Association in San Clemente.
The location of this recent hillside movement is in the area near San Clemente’s Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens.
All Thursday afternoon and evening Metrolink service to and from Oceanside will only operate as far south as the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station. Passengers will be provided Uber vouchers of up to $50 to reach their final destination.
