Improvement Projects
Construction and Maintenance
Metrolink construction and maintenance crews are constantly working throughout the entire Southern California system expanding capacity, upgrading systems and maintaining existing infrastructure to help provide the highest quality of safety and service to our passengers. This work also helps to ensure a safe and smooth flow of freight rail traffic throughout our region. Here are examples of the type of work we do to maintain our rail system.

Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), in partnership with the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink), is upgrading the Moreno Valley/March Field Station in Riverside. This station serves Metrolink’s 91/Perris Valley Line and is the midpoint between the Perris-Downtown Station and the Riverside-Downtown Station. RCTC is the lead agency for this project.
Metrolink 91/Perris Valley Line Closure - Weekend of April 20-21, 2024
As part of this project a two-day weekend shutdown of the 91/Perris Valley Line in the cities of Perris, Moreno Valley and part of Riverside is scheduled on April 20-21,2024.
The service interruption will affect the Perris-South, Perris-Downtown, Moreno Valley/March Field, and the Riverside-Hunter Park Metrolink stations. There will be no passenger rail service from these stations. Metrolink will provide alternate bus transportation to passengers at impacted stations. Expect delays of up to 45 minutes. Riverside Transit Agency and other transit services from these stations will not be affected.
Service from the Riverside-Downtown, Riverside-La Sierra, Corona-North Main, Corona-West, and other 91/Perris Valley Line stations will be operating on the regular Saturday and Sunday schedules.
The weekend closure is needed to allow crews to safely continue working on upgrading train switches and installing drainage improvements as part of Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project. Crews will reopen the 91/Perris Valley Line in time for the first train on Monday, April 22.
The project is part of Metrolink's Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) program, which is upgrading the Metroink system in time for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. Funding is provided by federal and local grants and local sources.
