Gibbons are small and charismatic apes are native to Asian rainforests, where they leap from treetop to treetop, capable of clearing distances of 40 feet at speeds of up to 35 mph! During their less dramatic travels, gibbons walk on two feet.

For recreation and socialization, they are quite musical, able to project their voices up to two miles. And if you’d like to get up close (without touching) and learn about these delightful creatures, you can meet them at the Gibbon Conservation Center in Santa Clarita.

Conservationist Alan Richard Mootnick founded the Gibbon Conservation Center (GCC) to promote the conservation, study and care of gibbons through public education and habitat preservation. The center welcomes visitors of all sorts to learn about and enjoy the gibbons, offering both private and public tours, by reservation. The GCC is a favored destination for school groups and field trips, and they welcome academic researchers and observers.

Each tour lasts approximately one hour, and offers an incredible experience with these beautiful animals in Los Angeles County, instead of flying halfway around the world to see them in their usual habitat. Tours are offered seven days a week. Group Tour prices are $15/Adult, $12/Teens and Students, $10/Seniors, and $5/Children 4-12.

When you finish your tour, the center has a gift shop with delightful items celebrating the Gibbon to remind you of the incredible creatures and your time getting to know them.
