Downtown LA’s historic Hotel Figueroa has a rich history dating back to 1926, having been the largest commercial building funded by women for women when it opened.

The property was originally a YWCA serving as a safe haven for solo female travelers because, at the time, women were prohibited from checking into most hotels without a male chaperone. It was advertised as “an ideal stopping place for ladies unattended.”

It’s only fitting that the property was even operated by the first-ever female managing director of a hotel in the U.S. -- Maude Bouldin. For many years, this strong but feminine-leaning space served as a meeting place for practically every woman's club in Los Angeles.

Today, nearly 100 years later, the hotel’s vision of serving as a safe space and a community hub for women continues boldly through its vibrant programming which includes showcasing a gallery of female-focused curated art photography, painting, mixed media, sculptures in the on-site common spaces.
