Capistrano Beach
Capistrano Beach is a lesser-known, peaceful, low-key Orange County beach destination to enjoy beach bonfires, barbecues, bike rentals, and water sports. It’s a hidden gem nestled between San Clemente and Dana Point, bordered by San Clemente Beach to the south and Doheny State Beach to the north.
Affectionately nicknamed “Capo Beach” by locals, this stretch of sand offers enough space to play as well as picnic tables, basketball courts, and sand volleyball courts for those in the mood for some friendly competition.
It can be a popular surf spot when the waves break in the summer, and it boasts brilliant sunsets with views of San Clemente Pier and Dana Point Harbor all year-round. It’s also a great destination to stand up paddleboard or kayak (but visitors should be mindful of the strong undercurrent beneath the waves).
This beach has been known to offer uncrowded respite from nearby busier beaches of Orange County with a laid-back atmosphere to relax and soak in the sunshine. It’s an ideal beach for families and visitors of any age in the Greater Los Angeles area.
