Located in the eastern foothills of the majestic San Bernardino Mountains, Wildwood Canyon Park feels like a step back in time due to the well-preserved, protected and impressively diverse plant and animal life. It’s home to hundreds of species of wildlife and native plants as well as miles of hiking trails for visitors to explore.

Hikers who trek up to the radio tower at the top of the hill on a clear day can even see all of Burbank -- and as far as downtown Los Angeles.

Since the park sits at an elevation of 3,000 feet, it receives more rainfall than the surrounding valleys and cities, which means there’s a greater assortment of plants and a more unique combination of animals than urban LA.

Some of these species are native only to California, and the constant cycle of extreme conditions from the cool wet (and sometimes snowy) winters turn into hot, dry summers.

Visitors can learn about the local wildlife, such as the three main plant communities which include Oak Woodlands, Chaparral and Sage Scrub. There’s also an impressive amount of diversity of animals in the park, from rattlesnakes to red-tailed hawks, mountain lions and black bears.

In addition to hiking, visitors can also enjoy a picnic at one of the many picnic tables on-site, or embark on active adventures horseback riding, hiking and biking.
