Bowers Museum: Ceramics of Western Mexico Exhibit
At this ongoing exhibit hosted by Bowers Museum, guests can learn about and admire a collection of pre-Columbian Art from the western Mexican states of Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco.
This exhibition includes artworks that depict imagery from these cultures’ daily lives, and offer insight into the talent of West Mexican figurative artists.
Visitors can become educated on West Mexican shaft tombs and the cultures that used this as a means of burying their deceased.
There is a display of the ceramic figures which were placed inside shaft tombs to accompany the deceased in the afterlife, and there’s also a collection displaying the famously plump, naturalistic Colima dogs among other culturally significant works of art.
