Los Rios Historic District
The Los Rios District lies directly across the railroad tracks from the Metrolink San Juan Capistrano station.
This is the oldest neighborhood in California, with three original adobe structures among the forty remaining homes.
The Montanez, the Rios, and the Silvas are all that remain of the adobes that housed the builders of the mission and the mission ranch workers in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
Although most homes are private residences, a few businesses are open to the public, such as The Ramos House Cafe, The Tea House on Los Rios and The O'Neill Museum.
The O'Neill Museum is where the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society is headquartered, which means visitors can view all the archives of photos, books, documents, maps, genealogical records and oral histories covering early California history in the area here.
Pro Tip from Metrolink Employee Sheri C.: A San Juan Capistrano day trip is an ideal Southern California family outing. It lets visitors learn about a historical way of life, the weather is usually beautiful as the town benefits from its proximity to the ocean, and there are some great places to eat.
