Blue Ribbon Garden
*The Walt Disney Concert Hall and Blue Ribbon Garden tour are free to visit and self-guided; no reservation is required, though there are blackout dates due to the concert schedule.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall’s outdoor garden space – officially named the Blue Ribbon Garden – is a hidden gem of tranquility in the otherwise bustling Downtown Los Angeles. This cost-free, real-life secret garden oasis sits atop the distinct Frank Ghery building. The garden sits ensconced in the shade of the concert hall, blocking out traffic and creating a tranquil space.
The garden's main focal point, in addition to lush plants and flowers, is a sculpture named “A Rose for Lilly.” Frank Gehry created the sculpture as a personal gift, with more than 200 broken and repurposed porcelain vases, as a tribute to Lillian Disney. Lillian’s grandchildren later bestowed “A Rose for Lilly” to the city of Los Angeles as a public art piece for visitors to enjoy during their time at the concert hall.
