The "Old West" comes alive each spring in Santa Clarita, when western stars are immortalized on the streets of Old Town Newhall during the City of Santa Clarita’s annual Cowboy Festival which visitors can explore simply by walking down Old Town Newhall’s historic Main Street and following along with the dedicated stars adorning the sidewalk.

This is because the film industry called Santa Clarita home for nearly 100 years -- and similar in style to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Walk of Western Stars honors its legendary actors, directors and film professionals with a memorial that recognizes their hard work and prominent contributions to the entertainment industry. The Walk of Western Stars first started in 1981 and since then has continued to honor the legends of Western film, television and radio.

Bronze plaques are set in terrazzo tile and imprinted into both sides of the sidewalk for half a dozen blocks along Main Street in Old Town Newhall. Just a few of the classic cowboy movie heroes that have been honored along this walk include Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, John Wayne. Visitors can check out the growing collection of stars as they explore the quaint downtown area of Old Town Newhall’s strip of downtown shops, many of which are locally owned small businesses.
