Almost 25 years ago in 1996, creatively (and fittingly) named local coffee shop Back to the Grind brought Riverside its first community-centric coffee destination and has continued to offer people a safe and friendly space to enjoy a brew (of coffee or beer. This shop has everything). There’s an ample selection of both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks alongside tasty cafe bites with a side of quick and friendly service.

The trendy spot actively supports Riverside's eclectic Downtown artists community by providing a welcoming destination for local creatives to collaborate. The shop also hosts a variety of music, dance, and special events for artists to showcase their talent. Its “hipster” vibes draw in customers of every age seeking a location that offers their unique and perfectly inspiring combination of smart and social for studying, relaxing or chatting with a friend.

Standout interior decor elements that make this coffee shop feel just like a home away from home include the large bookshelves that line the walls and give the space a library-esque feeling, and the arcade games to play for when it’s time to take a well-deserved break from work.

Favorite menu items include the “flavored mocha” which packs in plenty of caffeine to power through a work or study session, and the “kindergarten special'' smoothie, which blends peanut butter, bananas, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, almond milk and raspberry juice to bring back (hopefully) fond school day memories of PB&J sandwiches. There are plenty of vegan options for both drinks and pastries to enjoy (there’s even a designated “vegan” menu) and coffee and tea for purchase in bulk.
