Nestled in the foothills of the Box Springs Mountains on the east side of the University of California, Riverside Campus is the UC Riverside Botanical Gardens which cover over 40 hilly acres of scenic beauty.

Guests can wander over four miles of trails, relax on a bench and enjoy the sights. From the Rose Garden to Lilac Lane to the Subtropical Fruit Orchard, there are 40 acres of extensive living plant museum, 3,500-plus plant species, and thousands of specimens from across the globe.

There’s a focus on plants from the Mediterranean climate as it’s similar to the arid climate of California and the southwestern US.

Pro tip from Metrolink employee Julie. N: "It is a nice place for a stroll and to learn about plants, insects and conservation. They have a plant sale every year and it's a good way to celebrate Earth Day!"
