Angel Stadium is the second oldest ballpark in the American League and the fourth oldest in baseball*. Since its opening in 1966, this stadium has served as the home ballpark of the Los Angeles Angels. At the time of the park’s original construction, the Angels were owned by Gene Autry, who decided to build a ballpark on this 140 acre site in Anaheim due to its proximity to Disneyland and major freeways.

The most well-known feature of the original Anaheim Stadium was the scoreboard, which stood out as a 230 feet tall, $1 million A-frame scoreboard topped with a giant halo. This how Anaheim Stadium became known as the “Big A.”

Over the years, this landmark has seen significant expansion and renovation – even serving as home to the LA Rams of the NFL for some years. In January of 1994, the stadium was significantly impacted by the Northridge earthquake suffering $4 million in damage.

When The Disney Corporation bought the Angels in 1996, the company agreed to pay for 70% of a massive $100 million renovation project, having the stadium completely overhauled and modernized. In left centerfield fans could see a show called the “California Spectacular” where geysers erupted, and a stream cascaded down a mountainside covered with real trees and faux rocks.

Today, the stadium is known as Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The ballpark holds 45,050 spectators, and offers visitors a multitude of amenities including club restaurants, themed sports bars and gathering areas for fans.

Metrolink riders can take the train to the ARTIC (Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center) station which services the Metrolink Orange County Line, located nearby on the other side of the State Route 57 and accessed through the Douglass Road gate at the northeast corner of the parking lot.
