Pronounced “why-nee-mee,” this beach offers 50 acres of open, sandy space for families to play. Visitors to this beach will find a pier for fishing and exploring, plenty of tables and barbecue facilities for picnicking and hosting family parties, and volleyball courts for some friendly competition.

Each Summer, the lifeguard towers are fully staffed to help keep swimmers of every age and skill level safe. Those who are interested in someday sitting up on the lifeguard stand themselves can even enroll in a local Junior Lifeguard program.

While you’re visiting, check out the Sundial Memorial for Alaska Air Flight 261. This 36-foot diameter sculpture was created by a local artist and serves as a place of reflection and to honor those lost while also serving as a working sundial (on a massive scale) so parents can teach their kids how people would tell time before smartphones!

After a day of relaxing on the beach, take a stroll along the coastal walkway to the famous Point Hueneme Lighthouse which offers free tours on select dates. Owned by the US Coast Guard, this lighthouse was constructed back in 1940 and serves as a beautiful example of the Art Moderne style.

Since the city of Port Hueneme is home to the Naval Base Ventura County, and since the commercial Port of Hueneme is the largest commercial deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco, visitors are sure to see a parade of ships coming and going from the shores.
