Beginning Spring 2020, Metrolink is rolling out new ticket machines at stations across the system. Try out the new machines and see how Metrolink is making it even easier to ride the train across Southern California.

All Metrolink tickets purchased allow free transfers on select bus and rail lines. Visit for a list of participating providers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Metrolink commits to keep its customers first. The Metrolink Board of Directors prioritized the replacement of the older ticket machines as they were outdated, unreliable and a source of frustration for our riders. The new ticket machines are new, more reliable and user-friendly providing more convenience and time savings.

The new machines will accept cash, credit, debit during the pilot phase.

Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Corporate Quick Cards, Promotional Codes and transit vouchers will be accepted at a later date.

No. Metrolink ticket prices have not changed with these new ticket machines.

These new machines allow you to make split payments between cash and card but not between two cards. This feature will not be activated initially, but will be offered in the near future. In the meantime, if you need to make split payments, please visit the Metrolink ticket windows at Los Angeles Union Station.

Yes. Similar to the older ticket machines, the new machines will give coins and vouchers for change.  If you receive a voucher, you have the options to redeem at the Los Angeles Union Station Metrolink ticket windows, online by filling out the Voucher Reimbursement Form located at: or by calling 877-693-5217.  In the future, you will also have the capability to redeem your voucher towards a ticket/pass purchase at the new ticket machines. 

At our initial launch, we are focused on providing the most vital elements to our riders and testing these functions. We want to provide these features so that riders can test and provide feedback.

Yes.  It will take some time to deploy all of the machines, but ultimately, every Metrolink station will have new ticket machines.  Stations will start with one new ticket machine, but eventually all machines will be replaced with the new ticket machines.

Yes.  If you see a new machine at your station and will pay with cash, credit or debit card, please try out our new ticket machine. If you use the new machines and have any questions or comments, please text or call 800-371-5465.

We will add more payment types in the future to include Metrolink promotional codes, the Metrolink Corporate Quick Card, Apple pay, Google pay and Samsung Pay. Please visit for updates.  

Please make sure you scan the QR barcode printed on the front of your ticket at Metro Rail Stations for a seamless transfer.  Should you have any issues at Metro Rail Station, please contact the Help Phone.  For Metro bus service and for Metrolink service, please show the bus operator your Metrolink ticket for inspection.

Yes. The Metrolink App is available in the Google Play or Apple App store to purchase tickets. It’s still the most convenient way to buy a Metrolink ticket.  

Yes, once the ticket vending machines have all of their capabilities activated, you can save time by swiping your Corporate Quick Card. However, during the initial launch Corporate Quick Cards will only be accepted on the older machines. Signs are posted at the stations as reminders. Please continue to check this webpage for updates.

Yes.  You have the ability to purchase future dated tickets on the new ticket machines up to 365 calendar days in advance of your travel date.

No, you cannot purchase Amtrak tickets through Metrolink Ticket Machines.  However, there are shared service with Amtrak trains on the Ventura County and Orange County lines that accept Metrolink tickets.  Please check the schedule for a list of these trains.

Yes.  Just choose Flyaway/LAX as your destination station to purchase your Metrolink ticket with transfer to the Flyaway shuttle service.

Yes, you will once all of the capabilities are activated. At the initial launch, this feature will not be available.

Yes. All new ticket machines have voice enabled technology and braille keypads.

Yes.  The new ticket machines have English and Spanish language options. Metrolink’s call center can assist with other languages at (800) 371-5465 (LINK)
